Turnu Roșu - Suru route

If you want to explore the beauty of the Fagaras Mountains, you can start your journey from Turnu Rosu, a picturesque town located in Sibiu County. This area is famous not only for its unique landscape and the natural reserve of Eocene limestones, but also for being one of the "gates" to the impressive peaks of the Fagaras Mountains. If you decide to start your mountain adventure from Turnu Rosu, you will follow a main street that passes through Valea Satului, at the exit of the town you will find a forest road (accessible to cars in normal weather conditions) that will help you reach the "gate" to the mountains. Before reaching the first access mark, you can stop for a few moments at the Turnu Roșu Monastery and enjoy the peace and beauty of this place. On the route you will pass through the Chica Pietrelor Peak area (1606 m altitude), where you will be able to admire a unique view of the Olt Valley and the Lotrului Mountains in the background. In this area you will find arboreal vegetation up to an altitude of 1500-1600 m, after which you will encounter alpine vegetation. From the intersection of the red cross marking with that of the main ridge - red band - the path follows the summit of the western marginal sector of the massif, passing successively under Chica Lacului (1640 m), Chica Fedeleșului (1819 m), Piscul lui Făt (1871 m), Vârful Tătaru (1840 m). The trail then descends into the Apa Cumpănită Saddle (1807 m), climbing continuously up to 2110 m into the Suru Saddle. If you want to tackle this route, you should take into account that the difference in level between the starting point (Turnu Roșu) and the Suru Peak is approximately 1800 m, that you will have to spend a whole day climbing the mountain and that it is important to have a very good physical condition to face the challenge. However, your effort will certainly be rewarded by the natural beauties of the area.
